Here’s a Look at How HubSpot and Stripe Integrate

Written by Ryan Finkelstein | Feb 20, 2023 4:40:54 PM

Stripe is one of the most widely-used payment processing platforms, especially among businesses that engage in subscription-based commerce or those that receive a high volume of sales. If you use Stripe and HubSpot, or if you’re considering adopting HubSpot, the good news is that Stripe and HubSpot integrate.

There’s a lot you can do with this integration but there are also some limitations. Here’s a look at how these two systems work together and what you can do to fill the gaps.

Quotes and Checkout Integration

The key feature of the HubSpot and Stripe integration is the ability to manage and accept payments for HubSpot’s native quotes.

HubSpot will integrate any Stripe checkout into a quote, allowing you to collect payment by credit card.

Once payment is received, HubSpot will automatically create a customer record and add subscriptions to the customer in Stripe.

The key benefits to this are the ability to create great-looking quotes that your reps can send to prospects and the ability to introduce automation into the customer creation process. It eliminates some of the manual tasks you’d have to perform to ensure prospects receive actionable quotes and their records are recorded correctly in HubSpot.

You can accept Stripe payments directly via your HubSpot quotes through the integration, eliminating some of the back-and-forth activities between apps.

The one notable limitation of this feature is that the integration doesn’t accept ACH payments (direct bank transfers). You’ll only be able to accept payments through cards.

Automatic Contact Creation

The second key benefit to this integration is the ability to create new contacts automatically in HubSpot. This occurs once payment is accepted on a Stripe transaction if that contact isn’t already in the database.

HubSpot will create a customer and add subscriptions to that customer in stripe.

This is a great feature for digital purchases, but it’s an even better feature for managing subscriptions or other types of services, such as classes or workshops.

Inventory and Discount Management

Because the integration works directly with HubSpot’s native quotes, you should have no problem applying relevant discounts to your quotes. You should also be able to manage your inventory effectively if you use an inventory management tool alongside HubSpot.

For subscription-based organizations like SaaS companies or educational companies, you can use the integration’s contact-creation feature to associate contacts with specific types of inventories. This will help you better manage enrollees in courses, for example, or keep tabs on how many people are purchasing subscriptions to your offerings.

The built-in HubSpot-Stripe integration is pretty powerful, but it still lacks some features you may find critical. For example, it won’t allow you to manage Stripe transactions, subscriptions, and quotes directly in HubSpot, nor will it allow you to create Stripe transactions and payment links from your HubSpot Dashboard.

The integration only works with HubSpot’s native quotes.

That’s a distinction that wasn’t lost on us. To fill these gaps, hapily created Zaybra, an app for seamlessly managing Stripe subscriptions on any HubSpot tier.
